Our new five dementia care apartments enjoy all of the same
conveniences as our assisted living health care apartments,
but in a contained secure dedicated area of the building.
The entire unit has a # key entrance system at all fire doors.
This equipment allows safe delay operation of emergency exit bars.
The staffing ratio for these special needs residents is always
a minimum of 1 to 2 staff for the 5 residents.

  Haven Goals:

►  To meet the area's need for a comfortable, attractive home
for individuals diagnosed with moderate to advanced dementia,
including those with varying stages of Alzheimer's disease,
and others who may unintentionally wander.

► To provide a physical, psychological and spiritual
environment that has...

#1  A comforting sound level and visual experience that is soothing.

#2  An overall atmosphere that is pleasant and accepting to residents,
 staff, family and visitors.

#3  Personal space which the resident can make their own.

#4  Communal space where all residents can engage in group
dining and other diversions.

Why a Haven?
Thank you for expressing interest in our new memory care home
that opens in March 2008.  The new 5 unit "Haven" is intended to serve
area community members whose aging and dementia-related illness have
left them in need of a safe and affirming place to live.
Much has changed since 1999 when we took a leap of faith and opened the first HOMEPLACE:  The HOMEPLACE of Mondovi.  Since then we’ve taken similar leaps in Stanley and Durand.  At every step we’ve found times where we needed affirmation and the expression of hope.  As people of faith, like all believers,
we needed a Haven.  And whenever we’ve needed a Haven, we’ve found it.  Sometimes through each other and sometimes through other people of faith
who used loving hands and deeds to express the love of a gracious God.
We believe the need for a Haven grows more and more as people slip farther and farther into dementia.  As we loose the ability to know what goes on in their minds we may question if our caring efforts do any good.  But if we know anything from our own lives, we know people of faith need daily affirmation of hope and faith, just as they need daily reminders they are still in the loving hands of a forgiving and gracious God. Though people of faith may no longer be able to express their faith, they can still smile or hold a hand or respond to a deed done in kindness. These are affirmations that faith and hope still live: faith they are not alone, and that the hope of God’s grace remains alive in them.
